Welcome to the Shoreline Homeschoolers' website!

This is a community website for our homeschooling support group, in which all members can participate by posting information, events, and much more. If you are not yet a member of the group, enjoy your visit to our site, and consider joining the support group. Here is some basic information to help you get started. Then, please explore the site and add your own content. Please be respectful of our online community.

Please note: information posted to the website is not automatically sent out to the FYI list. To send information to all Shorleinehomeschoolers, send an email to fyi at shorelinehomeschoolers.org

Shoreline Homeschoolers need individual accounts in order to view all parts of the website. Forum discussions, certain events, and image galleries can only be viewed by logged-in members. All family members, including kids, are encouraged to create their own accounts and participate in our online community. See "create new account" on the left to get started.

  1. Visiting
On your initial visit to the website, as an anonymous guest, you will be able to read some of the content, including blog posts and events on the calendar. You cannot, however, view any personal contact information, forum discussions, comments or add new events to the calendar.
  2. Creating an account
To create an account, click on the link to "Create new account" under the login box on the left side of the screen. Click here and create an account for yourself. The contact information is optional.
  3. Adding events, blogging, and other cool community tools
Log in to the website in the boxes on the left and see all the options that appear in the left hand column. Click on "Create content" to add an event to the calendar, start your blog, or add other content to the website.
  4. Adding Events to Calendar
Click on "Create content" and then select "Event" Add a title for the event. If this event should not be viewed by non-members, then uncheck the "anonymous user" box. Add a description of the event in Body. Set the start/end date and time, and press submit. There is no "event-repeating" like you find on a palm pilot. Right now, you need to post a class/event separately on each date that it occurs.
  5. View/Edit Permissions
For events, blogs, and image galleries, you can decide if anonymous users can view the content that you're adding. If privacy is an issue, be sure that both "anonymous user" boxes (view and edit) are unchecked. If you're unsure what to do, then leave the default settings.

  6. What's a blog?
From blogger.com: " A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules. In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what's new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. Or not."
  7. Setting up your Blog
Click on "Create content" and then select "Personal blog entry" Add a title for the event, and then compose your blog entry in Body. For more information about using blogs, please read more about blogs from WikiPedia.
  8. Composing Tips
A brief introduction to adding some flair to your postings.
  9. Automatic emails about new content
If you would like to receive email notification of new content on the website, like additions to the calendar, please login and enable the following settings: Click on "My account" in the left hand column to review your account settings. Then, click on "My Notify Settings". Its should be set as follows: * notify status ENABLED * notify new content ENABLED * Content (your choice) * Notify New Comments (your choice)
